DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT 

The City of De Smet is accepting applications for a full-time Street Department worker and Department Assistant worker.  The position involves performing various duties including maintaining the streets, snow removal, and assisting all other departments.   Must possess a high school diploma or GED.  Experience in street maintenance preferred.  Possession of or ability to obtain a SD Dept. of Agriculture Commercial Chemical Applicator’s License, and Commercial Driver’s License is required.   Must be able to pass a drug & alcohol test.  Salary DOE.   Benefits include paid holidays, health insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, SDRS membership, vacation and sick leave.   To apply complete an application available at De Smet City Hall, 106 Calumet Avenue, De Smet or call 605-854-3731.  Applications will be accepted until 5:00 pm on September 29, 2025.

DE SMET EVENT AND WELLNESS CENTER

The City of De Smet is accepting applications for a full-time custodian for the Event and Wellness Center. The position involves performing various duties including:

• Custodial duties in and around center
• Works closely with employees and public to meet the needs of the center
• Works with other city departments on various duties
• Mowing
• Snow removal
• Resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations
• Perform other related duties

Must be able to pass a drug & alcohol test and a pre-employment physical. Must possess or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to do snow removal with large equipment. Wages DOE.
